Is myspace a safe place? in general. im not planning on 'meeting new people' just to keep

i kinda want one and a lot of my friends have them. i just have to discuss it with my mom. but i dont think she trusts me beucasei have a tendancy to talkto strangers [not online, in person.] just wave and say hi or 'i like ur pjs!' but i think she doesnt want me to have one becuase shes afriad ill talkto strangers and give them my phone number and address and stuiff.,...which i totally wont, i just want one to keep in easier touch with my friends. i would set my profile to private anyways. and i could have my older [19,21,24] cousins as friends. i dont know. i want one, but im trying to work up my courage to tell my mom. i know how to be safe. i REALLY WONT talk to strangers....really....im 13 and in 8th grade.

As long as you keep it private and don't accept messages from people you don't know you should be okay. However, I think you should let your mom have access to your account. You know you won't be doing anything wrong that you wouldn't want her to see, so it won't be like she's invading your privacy and it will make her feel better about the whole thing.

it's a relatively safe place, they seem to be doing alot to prevent crap from occurring.

Well, the worst thing about myspace is that bad people..or what ever you wanna call them can act as your friends and thats how they get the info. what you could do is when your talking to your friends, give them a secret code that only you guys know, so that way you know its them. And make it so before you guys even say anything, make it be like...chicken..or what ever you want lol.

Hope this helps. :)

I had two myspaces and my parents wouldn't let me. Just dont put on any inportant info. Ok? Its only probably safe if you dont put any personal info. People get killed by putting personal info on there.

It is a nice place to keep in touch with friends.

You could keep in on private.

Tell your mother that she could have access to your profile.

That way she will have access to your profile.

Just set your profile to private and do not give out personal info and everything will be okay.

i have a myspace page and eventho many people say myspace is dangerous...it can be safe...(dont get me wrong, it can be dangerous)...u just have to learn to do certain things. for example, u can put ur profile on "private" so that the only way people can see your profile, is if you add them. plus there's a way in which if a person wants to be your friend, they have to know your last name or your email address. its also a good idea not to put identifiable information on your page. the reason i have a myspace is to keep in touch with my friends. i actually found a friend from my fourth grade class...and we live in long distanced cities!

You don't have to give them your number to be a victim of some weirdo. I once saw a special on TV where a cop was goofing off on the internet. He looked up some girl's profile and studied it. She wasn't much older than you, she was on the soccer team, and she posted a pic of her in her soccer uniform. She also had her hometown on there. All that information was useful.... he knew what town she was in, what school she went to. He also knew she stayed after school for soccer practice and what her number was. He waited for her to finish practice and walked up and identified himself as a police officer. He explained to her how easy it was for some weirdo to find someone to victimize....

Also think about this: You're chillin online one day and some guy starts talkin to you.... he shows you his pic and you think he's cute...you're afraid to meet this guy but you still talk to him so you can "get to know him" eventually after 2 or three weeks you agree to meet him at the mall....then instead of meeting a cute guy at the mall you're in a bad situation. You have to understand people that prey on people like you have experience....I'm not trying you to sway your decision either way, i just want you to understand how easy it is....

Long story short, never trust anyone and be careful. :)
